Not Knowing The Symbolism Behind African Masks

In the Western culture, a mask symbolizes façade or the act of hiding something from the public.  In its natural form, there is nothing fundamentally wrong about it except that in some instances it could be quite negative.  In other cultures, mask is not seen as bad.  It symbolizes being adaptable to the African culture.  The adaptability thing has crept into many American homes already, throughout the years.  This is ensured through the use of African masks for decorative purposes. In some Western homes, the masks are even displayed right at the main living room without knowing the real symbolism behind them.
