Bring binoculars for desert birding

September 14th, 2008 . by admin

Bring binoculars for desert birding.  You need to see the birds from far away first. Because there is not much to hide behind as you approach them.

So if you are planning to use a spotting scope and sit for a while, that is fine, but bring your own shade too.  The sun is relentless.  Bring a LOT of water too.

You will perspire and dehydrate without even noticing it. The air is so dry you hardly ever sweat. It evaporates as it is formed.

So, if you are going birding in the desert, you need binoculars and preparation ahead of time.
