You have to take into consideration that you are staying at the most modest of accommodations on the island of Lanai. If you want to stay at either of the Four Seasons resorts then you will be paying out the nose – something like $400 per day minimum, and that is for the small rooms. So, I appreciated the HOtel Lanai for what is was, an old plantation house, and took the quirks like the sound of water running at night in the pipes or the strange smells sometimes in stride. You don’t spend all that much time in the hotel anyway.
